There are three main elements that makes the post production good. The first is dialogues that must be the first priority, making sure that other sounds or music is not over powering the dialogues. Then comes the sound, It is not necessary while putting sounds in the scenes have to be heard loud and clear, but it needs to be there. Planning of the sounds ahead makes the workflow mush easier and smoother. And the third one will be mixing, this is where everything comes together and all sound should complement the story.

In post production it is not compulsory to just focus and listen to how the one sound is like on its own, it's the overall soundscape thats important. For example, just listening to dialogue after editing without any other sounds feel like it doesn’t fit or is not good enough, but putting that same dialogue with rest of the sounds, music and effects might work good. One thing to keep in mind is that whatever moves has a sound even if it is not loud and clear, not adding the sound just because it might not be heard by audiences is where people make mistake. When people watching the clip wouldn't notice it but surely will feel that somethings wrong.
There are some points to keep in mind while working on post production,
Record the sounds in mono instead of stereo that includes ADR, foley, effects, etc.
Always have background that doesn’t take over other sounds.
Use the whole frequency spectrum that are lows, mids, and highs. Have a wide range of frequency for example the dialogue is usually at around mid range, so have background music or other effects around low or high tones that will make listening experience even better.
Trust the ears, listen to the whole mix without focusing on few sounds.
